Regards,
It seems that our DPM 2012 server is creating very large recovery points for our exchange 2013 database as compared to Exchange 2010. During a sync every 15 minutes it transfers about 2-3GB which is normal but the full express backup recovery points are very large. Our Database is about 250GB which is about the same size as our previous 2010 database. It seems that Exchange 2013 produces a LOT more logs than 2010 did so would that explain the larger recovery points?
If so, I guess I'll need to go post in the Exchange 2013 forum about why so many logs are being generated.
I do not have an issue, just need to clarify a few things and see if in my scenario, are there any after effects.
We are using DPM 2010 with all service patches on a 2008r2 physical box
We have Exchange 2010 in a DAG configuration. Two exchnage (exchange1 and exchange2) boxes control access to he mailbox database. these are 2008r2 physical boxes with Exchange 2010 sp2 rollup 6. ( we have not made the move to sp3 yet.)
In dpm, we have exchange in a PG. using the eseutil locally on dpm. and have it set Run for log files only. The Database copy for a full backup is set against our exchange1 box for the mailbox database and public folders database. Also, there is a Synchronization frequency set for 15 minutes.
What we are seeing is when the mailbox database is mounted on exchange1; all work well. No uncommn event are recorded.
However, when the mailbox database is mounted on exchange2, there are many many more events written. it looks like the Information Store for the mailbox database is stoppped, there is a VSS writter freeze against the database. I see that an incremental backup has started, has stopped, then the database is thawed, mounted etc... These are all successful messages. There are no issues or errors.
I am just interested to know why this happens, if there is a scenario or type of Protection group configuration that I can make to prevent this, or if i can expect and sort of impact on dpm, the exchange servers, or all the way down to the user experience.
thanks

How can I restore a Mailbox Database from an expired tape?
I have applied the work-around to catalogue the tape (mark as free > unmark as free) and I have been able to get the Database off tape, but how can I now mount this as a recovery database?
Hello,
I am attempting to backup exchange 2010 and exchange 2013 with DPM 2012 SP1.
The backup starts and data begins to be transferred. However the backup stops before completion. On the DPM server the protection status is Replica is inconsistent. On the protected Exchange Server I am seeing the following Errors:
EventID 9782
Exchange VSS Writer (instance f1246312-710b-4287-a2fa-69d1bbf9b706:1) has completed the backup of database 'Mailbox Database One' with errors. The backup did not complete successfully, and no log files were truncated for this database.
EventID 2007
Information Store (5136) Shadow copy instance 1 aborted.
I just installed DPM 2012 SP1 doing a clean install. I previously used DPM 2012 RTM to backup this exchange server. I uninstalled the previous DPM Agent on the Exchange Server prior to Installing DPM 2012 SP1.Does anyone have some advice?

Hi folks,
I am testing DPM 2010 when I try to install the agent on Exchange 2010 (Version 14.1 (Build 218.15)).
When I get the follow error.
One or more prerequisites for protecting Exchange 14 are missing.
Go to (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=158965) for a detailed list of prerequisites for protecting Exchange 14 databases.
ID: 31267
The both servers are Windows 2008 R2. (DPM Console e Exchange Server).
Someone get the same error? I don´t have any ideia to solve this problem.

Hi, I am getting a 'service failed to respond' error on my DPM 2010 server. The production serve that is producing the error has worked well until a couple of days ago. I've checked the logs on the production server and found the event below:
Log Name: Application
Source: DPMRA
Date: 6/4/2013 11:06:32 AM
Event ID: 84
Task Category: None
Level: Error
Keywords: Classic
User: SYSTEM
Computer: ServerName
Description:
A DPM agent failed to communicate with the DPM service on Server because access is denied. Make sure that Server has DCOM launch and access permissions for the computer running the DPM agent (Error code: 0x80070005, full name: DPMServer).
The DPM server and the protected server are in the same domain and I have checked connectivity which is fine. DCOM seems to be fine as well. I have also noticed that, for the most part, the protected volumes are still able to create recovery points (though they fail more often than not they dom seem to work on occassion). I'm at a loss as to what could have caused this server to suddenly get access denied errors.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Hi All,
am using DPM 2010 to backup Exchange 2010 Mailbox DB. now i am seeing critical alerts in DPM console that replica is inconsistent. below is the error screenshot. only single DB is not getting replicate properly. i have done consistency check many times but no success.

I have 2 mailbox servers with exchange 2010 that are members of dag1
MBX1 has db1,db2,db3 as active databases and db4,db5,db6 as passive databases
MBX2has db4,db5,db6 as active databases and db1,db2,db3 as passive databases
Question 1
Regarding the following statement that was mentioned in the DPM calculator
“Number of copies that will be protected in this site: Specify the number of copies of a mail database that you want to protect in a DAG. You can protect one or more mail databases with DPM. The number of databases that you protect will depend upon several parameters. Most often you will protect one copy of the database with DPM. DPM 2010 provides node based protection for Exchange 2010, so the state of the protected database - Active or Passive is not important in choosing which database you will protect, it is important to ensure that there”
Do they mean how many copy I need to take for each database in other words they mean I could backup each data base twice one from MBX1 and one from MBX2
Question 2
Regarding the topology mentioned above, is the inputs I typed meet my topology or not
Number of Mailbox Nodes in the DAG
Total Number of Mailboxes in this installation | 550 |
Total Number of Databases on each node
Number of copies of each database (1 Active + All Passive DBs)
Number of copies that will be protected in this site
Number of servers in Mailbox Server Role that will be protected
Number of Exchange DBs / LUN |
Question 3
If I want to take backup from MBX1 not MBX2 ,and MBx1 went down for any reason, I must change the protection group to initiate the backup from MBX2 , the dpm wouldn't take the backup from mbx2 as I didn't take backup from MBX02 for the first time
I think that taking backup from both server will need a lot of storage
Hello!
Im currently having a coexistance exchange 2010 and 2013 and would like to take backups of both using the same dpm server. Is this possible?
Hi All,
We have an Exchange 2010 Environment with DPM 2010 Backup solution. We have three Mailbox Servers in our Environment.
I have created One protection Group for all three Mailbox Servers database backup. I configured only passive database copies to take the backup.
Every day, we taking the Incremental Backup via 24 hours sync frequency.
When the backup starts at 12 AM, Only three database backups are running at a time. Rest of the jobs are in pending state. But we need to run multiple jobs at time through schdule.
Is ther any way, we can configure PG to run multiple jobs at a time for the Mailbox Server Backup ?
