Hello,
I’ve started getting the following error message on my DPM 2010 server when it tries to create a Recovery Point on my Exchange 2010 server:
DPM failed to communicate with the protection agent on <Exchange 2010 Server> because the agent is not responding. (ID 43 Details: Internal error code: 0x8099090E)
When I go into the Management > Agents tab on the DPM management console and try to ‘Refresh Information’ for the Exchange 2010 server I get the following error:
Data Protection Manager Error ID: 316
The protection agent operation on <Exchange 2010 Server> failed because the service did not respond.
I’ve successfully run the following tests on both my DPM and Exchange servers:
Basic connectivity by using ping.
Next tested SMB (file sharing). net view \\<protected server
name>
Next tested RPCand connectivity to Service Control Manager (SCM). This displays a list of services on the remote
server when successful. Sc \\<protected server
name> query
Lastly tested WMI/DCOM. When successful this command lists some basic information about the remote server.
Wmic /node:"<protected server name>" OS list brief
I tried to manually restart the DPMRA service on the Exchange server but it timed out when trying to stop the service.
The Exchange Server Application Event Log is full of Event ID 7034 ‘The DPMRA service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this X time(s).’ errors.
I notice in the Application Event Log on the Exchange server that I got the following DCOM error just before I got the Event 7034 Error for the first time:
Event ID: 10010 Source: Microsoft-Windows-DistributedCOM Description: DCOM got error "2148007941" from the computer <Exchange Server> when attempting to activate the server: {DA6AA17A-D61C-4E9C-8CEA-DB25DEA52A95}
Can anyone provide any help or advice on what may have stopped the DPM Agent working on this one server and how to fix it? All my other protected servers are backing up as normal. Nothing has changed on the Exchange server.
If reinstalling the DPM agent on the Exchange server is the next best thing to try, what is the best process for doing this? Should I manually uninstall it from Add/Remove programs on the Exchange server and then try to install it from the DPM management
console? Or, should I just try to ‘install’ it from the DPM management console without uninstalling it first?
What effect will this have on the Exchange Protection Groups and the pre-existing backups of the Exchange server?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Ros
