We recently migrated from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013 and found that our backups have exponentially increased in size. With Exchange 2007 we only moved about 10-15GB per Express Full backup, but now with Exchange 2013 we are moving 320-350GB per Express Full backup. Because of this change, our offsite backup duration now takes 40 hours to complete - just for Exchange 2013.
What can we do to fix this?
Hi, I'm getting an error which does not seem to match in the DPM 2010 ID codes. Randomly, I have backups of an exchange 2010 DAG that are failing. The backup will run for a short time (5mints..up to 10minuts) and then will fail with the following error:
Type: Recovery point
Status: Failed
Description: Backup failed as another copy of 'user' database is currently being backed up. (ID 32628 Details: Internal error code: 0x80990D51)

I've tried restarting the DPM server to troubleshoot. I say this happens randomly because I've had some backups successfully complete against the same exchange server. The only other item that seems odd is when creating protection groups against the DAG, the intial lookup seems to take forever. Not sure what to try next.

I have a few questions regarding DPM 2012 and the way it protects Exchange databases. I had a bad mobile device generating 1000's of logs on a DB in Exchange and filling up the transaction logs rapidly. DPM backed all of that up. The problem is now my once 800GB DB Recovery volume in DPM is 2.2TB used and 4.2 TB unallocated.
1. Is there any way to get all of that space back?
2. Will we start to see the storage pool increase when retention is met? Start to reclaim space?
3. Is there a recommended percentage of storage we should have free on the storage pool in order for DPM to not see VSS errors or inconsistency?

I am facing issue to Cancel one of the Database Job. We have three mailbox servers and configured 8 database backup per server.
If i try to cancel one database job, associated database backup jobs also cancelling.
Please let me know, is there any DPM shell command to cancel particular job in DPM server.

I am fairly new to using DPM 2010. I have a protected Exchange 2010 DB that is being shown as inconsistent. If I try to run a consistent check it fails. In the Event Viewer on the DPM server, I am getting Event ID 33223.
Disk allocation details are as follows:
Replica volume: 463 GB allocated, 329 GB used | Recovery point volume: 55 GB allocated, 25 GB used.
The Disk Pool Details are as follows:
Total Capacity 2793, used 2641 & unallocated 152.
The protected Exchange server has 454 GB & 719 GB of free space on 2 separate drives.
As I try to resolve this issue, is there someone out there can point me to a link that explains in detail about disk allocation works in 2010 DPM? I would also appreciate any help I can get to resolve the "replica inconsistent" error.

I check DPM 2010 and it shows a recovery point from last night and data was transferred. These few databases in question have little activity. I just ran manual consistency checks and short - term disk protection which both completed successfully on each database. But when I check the directory in which the logs are stored for each database they still show log files back to 12/27/2013. And another database it cleared 90 logs from 1/3-1/5/2014 but still left 1/6-today 1/8 which is a total of 120 logs left.

I am thinking about setting my express full backup to run during the day during the day to decrease supporting this at night. My question is will this impact our databases to the point of customer impact. We currently do 4 sync jobs a day, then a full backup on Friday night. Just trying to make sure there is no impact.

Since we needed a way to back up our 2012 file server, we upgrade our dpm server to sp1 beta. Since doing so, our exchange recovery points (two different protection groups) no longer run. They continue to show a healthy green check mark though. This resulted in the logs filling up one of the drives which alerted us to the problem.
Is this a known issue? Is there any way to make the schedule kick back in? Manual recovery points work fine.

I have DPM 2010 protecting my Exchange 2010 DB's. The exchange server DB backups are failing with Replica inconsistent error as below.
DPM is unable to continue protection for <Exchange db> on <host> because the change tracking information is corrupt (ID 30156 Details: Not enough storage is available to process this command (0x80070008))
The disk where these backups are running have sufficient space. The server also has sufficient free space. Where this no storage error points to?

When restoring any files it stores them in a very convoluted directory structure. I want to just restore my file that I want in a single directory!
Is there no way to just restore an item to a certain path?
We are trying to restore a mailbox on DPM 2012 R2 QFE1 from a Exchange 2010 server. We have successfully created a RSG in Powershell, but when pointing this out in the recovery options in DPM, we get the following error:
Activation of COM component ExchangeCmdletWrapper failed on dpm.server.name (ID 30220 Details: Unknown error (0x80131700) (0x80131700))
Have checked the permissions of the DCOM object, System + local administrator account both have Full Control. There is almost nothing to google for about this error. Anyone?

I have recently deployed DPM 2012 on a Site, and created a Protection Group to backup 3 Exchange 2007 Databases, the solution seemed to work fine for a week. The Client has migrated a large amount of mailboxes - One of the Storage groups will no longer backup and an error stating "DPM has detected a discontinuity in the log chain for ....."
I currently have the protection group configured to create a Recovery point every 4 Hours and to run an Express backup at 12 am Each Night
From reading previous post there may be a conflict between the Recovery Point and Express Backup - Could somebody please advise on the best approach to resolving this issue - I am potentially thinking about - changing the Recovery Point Creation to run once every 24 hours and then run an Express backup at 1 am

Please help me to understand while protecting exchange 2010 databases from DAG is it required to protect passive copy of database through DPM? There are 2 nodes in exchange DAG.
Consider the scenarios:
There four databases D1, D2, D3, D4 and all are active from Node 1. We have protected all the database only from Node 1 using DPM 2012.
Scenario 1: If disaster happened to Node 1 then can we use the backup of Node 1 to restore the database on Node 2 if required. In this case is it required to change backup in DPM from node 1 to node 2 manually?
Scenario 2: Suppose later disaster happened to Node 2 as well prior to making backup option change from Node 1 to node 2 then how can we restore exchange databases as both nodes are down?
What is recommended option to backup exchange 2010 DAG databases using DPM 2012, is it to backup only active database or both active & passive databases?
Concern is that if we protect both active & passive databases in DPM then it is occupying approx. double disk space.
So please appropriate backup option to protect exchange 2010 DAG databases using DPM 2012.
Do I need to run the Eseutil integrity check when I'm moving the volumes for exchange to a different DPM 2012 R2 server?
It looks like Eseutil is verifying the Integrity of the Exchange database. This was originally run on the Exchange database months ago and the backups had been running well. Now that I will stop the backups on the initial DPM server and start them back up on a different DPM server do I need to run Eseutil again?

We have our DPM 2012 R2 installation on Windows 2008 R2 servers. We encounter failures some of the time on our Full Express Backups on Friday evenings where we get VSS errors in the event logs.

But does anyone know if there is a hotfix or something for this in case it does not. I read about these events having a hotfix for Windows 2003 servers but not Win2K8?

We have DPM 2012 backing up some of our VMs, including Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013. We have never had a successful backup with no errors for the Exchange databases. Have tried:
1. Restarting IIS on Exchange servers
2. Installing Visual C++ on Exchange 2013
3. Dismounting mailbox databases and truncating logs
4. All vsswriter statuses are stable
Error messages on the Exchange 2010 are:
"Event 9782 MSExchangeIS: Exchange VSS Writer (instance f7510d9f-4e76-44ce-8e62-f4f6b262fc7b:5) has completed the backup of database 'Admin Mailbox' with errors. The backup did not complete successfully, and no log files were truncated for this database."
"Event 2007 ESE: Information Store (1780) Shadow copy instance 5 aborted."
Error messages on Exchange 2013 are:
