Unable to get backup Exchange 2010 with DPM 2012

Hi

We have just setup a new Server 2012 VM and installed Exchange 2010. We have fully updated it and have migrated some mailboxes from our old Exchange 2007 system and everything was looking good.

Unfortunately we have never managed to get a backup using DPM, which has now slammed the brakes on any further migrations.

DPM insists that the "replica is inconsistent" all the time. This seems to tally with event 9617 on the exchange server which says "Exchange VSS Writer failed with error code 1295 when processing the backup completion event. "

So, far my search for answers is failing dismally, so I am hopeful that the folks here can lend me their expertise to help get his moving again. I am not massively familiar with any of this, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Restore failing due to inadequate disk space

DPM 2012, restoring an Exchange 2010 SP3 mailbox. The restore fails after several hours, "The operation failed because of inadequate disk space. (ID 2035 Details: There is not enough space on the disk (0x80070070))." The recommended action is to"Increase the amount of free space on volume \\?\C:\ on the destination computer...."

First: The recovery database is larger than the database that we are restoring (we restore the database and then extract the mailbox). Thus I do not understand why it tells me I need to increase the amount of free space on the destination computer and why it would say I need to do it at \\?\C:\. I assume it is because I use mount points and they are on C:\?

Second: We have done lots of restores in the recent past from the same DPM server to the same server that has this recovery database.

Third: I have re-tried the restore, same result. Is it possible that the old restore that still exists on the recovery database is not getting overwritten? If that is the case how do I delete the old backup? Do I just dismount the "Recovery Database" and then go to the mount point location and delete the recovery.edb?

DPM 2012 - Backup Exchange 2013 (DAG)

Hi,

I have 4 server in Exchange 2013 farm configured DAG.

I have 20 DB

In DAG configuration all DB is on each server, but only one is active.

when I want to backup those DB, what is the best option:

1) create PG for every server and backup all DB on the server.

or

2) Create one PG and backup all DB in all servers.

or there is a better option?

DPM and backing up of Exchange 2013 DAGs using Tape

Hi I'm trying to backup my exchange 2013 DAG and I just found out painfully, DPM does not directly backup to tape but via disk-disk-tape. My tape backup is an HP 1.8 G2 Autoloader with 8 slots, 1.8TB per tape and we were not planning to spend on hard disk again as we wanted to fully utilize the tape backup. Now when I configure exchange DAG backup on DPM, it's shows I need nearly 4TB of hard disk space to backup from all 3 exchange databases to disk and from which will be sent to the tapes.  I want to know is that how you guys backup your exchange databases using DPM and tape backup? So that means it's a waste of resources to have a tape backup for exchange when you can just purchase hard disks to do they job, I don't get it why the disk-disk-tape? what happens after the data is transferred from the disk to the tape, will it be deleted from the disk?

How to reduce DPM Database size.

Hello All,

We are running DPM 2012 SP1 in our environment and current DPM DB size is 13 GB and need to reduce the same as it is highly impacting server performance, many times DPM console goes unresponsive or shows incorrect information.

I couldn't found more information regarding reducing DB size, some suggested to defrag the SQL DB but not sure what is the impact of the same.

I want to know that if we can reduce the DPM DB size, if YES then does it will affect my Tape information stored in the Catalog, please suggest.

Our DPM Configuration

DPM 2012 SP1 (on Windows server 2008 R2)

Local SQL Server 2008 R2 (on Same DPM Server)

Current DPM DB size 13 GB

Backup Type - Daily Disk Full and per hour synchronization + Tape Full Backup

DPM Servers on Virtual Machines

Hello,

My name is Murat and I am responsible for DPM servers at my company. We use DPM for file,sql,exchange and Hyper-V snapshoot backups. Our DPM servers arephysical servers on the other hand my IT manager wants DPM servers on Hyper-V virtual machines.

Is there supported? for example My DPM servers DPM1-2-3-4 will run on Hyper-V VM and attached Storage for disks. then start to backup.

DPM 2012 R2 Azure online backup and recover

Hello,

My name is Murat and I am responsible for DPM servers at my company. We use DPM for file,sql,exchange and Hyper-V snapshoot backups.

I read article http://blogs.technet.com/b/systemcenter/archive/2014/03/16/using-azure-backup-with-dpm.aspx

I want to create for my company but I am confused. For example I create DPM Azure backup then I lost my DPM server how can we reach this backups?  Is there any alternative way about reach backup?

Backing up Exchange 2010 from a Server 2008 VM to Azure

Hi,

we are using an on premise Exchange 2010 installed on a Server 2008 (not R2) VM running on a Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V server.

I understand that there is support for backing up Exchange via the DPM agent and that Server 2008 is supported as a platform. The problem is that during the installation of the DPM agent, it insists on installing Virtual Server 2005. I am not particularly happy about installing a hypervisor on a virtual machine running Exchange.

Is it at all possible to install the DPM agent without Virtual Server 2005? Why would we need it at all? I have noticed that it does not do this on Server 2008 R2. If the recoverey involves mounting a VHD or a virtual machine, we can easily du that outside the Exchage VM on the 2008 R2 Hyper-V server. We are currently using Azure to backup file shares on a physical 2008 R2 server and that works fine, but our Exchange server is currently without a decent backup solution.

Can we use Azure for this or do we have to find another vendor?

Hello

Does someone have some input on why I get the error in the screenshot. I have 4.8TB available in my storage available to DPM and DPM wants to create replicas that are around 3,2TB for the 1,4TB DAG.

Not all DAG members show up using dpm 2012 R2 to backup exchange 2013

Hi Experts,

I have three exchange servers which were configured as a DAG,  each one contains a database UserDB01, totally three copys, but when i created the protection group to protect UserDB01, only two servers show up under the database, really confused where the other one goes, beacause i have installed the agent on each server successfully and when i went to Exchange server and run get-DatabaseAvailableGroup xxx， it will list all three servers.

Disable log truncation during Host Level Backup

Hi,

I have a 3 nodes Hyper-V Cluster, the hosts are Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter.

Some of my guests are Windows Server 2008 R2 with Exchange 2010.

When i backup the Exchange VMs the guest is aware of the backup and it flush the transaction logs.

I want to disable this feature. Every solution I found refers to this KB:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/975354

but this KB refers to Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V host, I'm not sure that it applies also to Windows 2012 R2 Hyper-V hosts.

Is there somebody that tried on Windows Server 2012 Hyper-V host? Does it still apply?

Restore to network folder - DAG copy with check - ESEUTIL (ID 30147 Details: Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF))

I'm restoring a database copy to a network path (another archive server).

After the restore job stores the EDB in the network path, ESEUTIL check fails with the following error;

Eseutil.exe failed to apply logs on database files for Exchange Mailbox Database on to bring the database to a clean shutdown state. (ID 30147 Details: Catastrophic failure (0x8000FFFF))

Is there something I've missed when restoring a EXCH 2013 DAG copy to a network path?

Unable to see new exchange 2010 database in dpm2012r2

Hi,

I just added a new disk to my Exchange server and moved one database to it.

But in dpm console i can't se the database or the new disk. It seems that dpm is not running a discovery on the Exchange server.

i have try to reinstall the dpm agent but stil no database or disk..

anyone have a clue?

Hi all ,

I have questation about protection exchange server 2010 with framework 3.51 SP1 running in the windows 2008r2 serveru . The DPM server is instaled in the windows 2012r2 server and supported version in this os is 2012R2 RU5 . After install i upgrade client in the exchange serveru . and i the DPM console is status OK ? It is Ok ??? Or which client is running without fw 4.0 ? In another server I try run c:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\DPMAgentInstaller_KB3021791_AMD64 and this installer do not require fw 4,0 .....

Database backing up to tape problem

I am running DPM2012R2 and I am having an issue backing up one of my Exchange 2010 databases to tape. I receive the following error.

The operation failed because of a protection agent failure. (ID 998 Details: The parameter is incorrect (0x80070057))

The other 5 Exchange 2010 databases backup just fine. The recovery point to disk is working fine on the failing database. Any thoughts as to why it fails to tape. Thanks.

DPM2012R2CU5 does not detect new Exchange Databases

Hello,

I have a problem with DPM2012 R2 CU5 running on Windows Server 2012 R2. We recently deployed a new Exchange Server 2013 CU8 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

After deploying the agent, DPM recognized the the first database we created and by now the initial backup has been performed.

However we added two more databases afterwards but DPM does neither find the new databases when we try to add them to the protection group nor does it recognize the volumes they are on.

The new "Refresh" button in the Wizard is greyed out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Enterprise Vault backups are failing with the following error code. Only few drives are failing not all the drives.

Hi All,

We have DPM 2012 R2 server and we are backing up the Symantec Enterprise Vault. There are 14 drives are attached to this server. Out of 14 drives 5 are failed with the following error. Could some one help me to resolve this issue.

Error:

Description: The replica of Volume N:\ on our EV Server is inconsistent with the protected data source. All protection activities for data source will fail until the replica is synchronized with consistency check. You can recover data from existing recovery points, but new recovery points cannot be created until the replica is consistent.

For SharePoint farm, recovery points will continue getting created with the databases that are consistent. To backup inconsistent databases, run a consistency check on the farm. (ID 3106)
 The protection agent on LONP-DPM01.argo-int.com was temporarily unable to respond because it was in an unexpected state. (ID 60 Details: Internal error code: 0x809909B0)

* We are able to backups with native Windows Backup the volumes, and when we run error check on the 5 volumes there are no errors

* On the DPM client error log, the following entry is being added to the log, hundred of thousand of times
